Have you ever wished you had an assistant to complete your timecards for you? Or send emails and meeting invites? The new app Marcel, announced by Publicis Groupe in 2017, is here to help.

Marcel utilizes conversational design and AI to connect 80,000 employees across the world, across 200 disciplines and in 130 countries, via voice prompts and text inputs—think Alexa or Siri for work. Built on Microsoft AI and knowledge graph technologies, Marcel learns from an employee’s calendar, email, and timesheets in order to better perform all kinds of tasks. It also proactively presents relevant knowledge and serves prompts tailored to the user’s role and interests and suggests refinements to queries that provide large returns.

 My role on this massive, year-long project was twofold: I lead visual design for the productivity feature team, while simultaneously collaborating with the systems team to create a seamless, intuitive design system. Each of the four feature teams were so unique that figuring out components and conversational design elements that could work across the app was definitely a fun challenge. Marcel isn’t yet live, but it’s been a great experience already seeing it come together.
